Stop Trying 03:26
Stop Trying

Had enough of all the fruitcakes Square-faced, fast-paced denial Ought to settle down in a slow space Kicking up my young bones begging me to leave the city behind
And stop trying Maybe stop trying
Stuck in the belly of a rat race Where the only end game would be to get the gatekeepers aligned Have them busted open by a brickkade Crushing the judges who’s been bought and paid to keep the old elusion alive That if we just keep trying We’ll be alright
I'm trying, I'm trying, i'm trying, i'm trying , To fit into a manmade man caved world Where patriarchy is the only gatekeeper picking from the line Of underpaid unemployed female workers trying to avoid The mansplaining, the ass gazing, power chasing pigs, pigs that just ain't trying
No, they ain’t trying Better start trying Stop trying

 I'm trying, i'm trying, i'm trying i'm trying, i'm trying trying

(Not enough)
 I’m no longer flying
 (Not enough)
 My sex redefining
(Not enough)
 Been exercising (Not enough)
 Accepted that i’m dying
 (Not enough)
I’m realizing
 Stop trying

about

This song is an ode to the little overachiever inside all of us, about how easy it is to get stuck in the loop of “becoming” something or someone, instead of enjoying the old impossible “being” which the moment so famously advertises. As a child of the 90’s lead singer Louis looks back:

“Growing up, I remember being asked in school by grown-ups about what the plans for my future were, what did I want to become? When the obvious answer of a 12-year-old kid was A professional football player, I was told that this was not a serious answer, that I had to think about the bigger picture”.

Stop Trying is a commentary on the systems in which we place our lives. Is it worth fitting into or should we redirect our effort towards changing the framework first?

about

Subterranean Street Society Amsterdam, Netherlands

Subterranean Street Society is a Danish-Dutch trio that plays a mix of Folk, Alternative and Grunge. Over steel metal resonator guitars, heavily overdriven hollowbody bass guitars, vintage cassette tape noise and deep beating drums, a road worn voice shouts out poetic tales about tragic heroes, romantic love and vagabonds. Vulnerable story-telling with a manic edge. ... more
